after quite some time i have decided try to tinkering with some networking again (using the same domain i used before.)
just now while i was in the middle of doing some research i suddenly got a post fediverse request to my temporary python server. XD

apparently a very long time because i just did a search on my domain name and my old activitypub account is still there. - last post in aug of 2020.

I am very amused right now watching the IP addresses scroll down my terminal at a trickle pace...
my temporary server is redirecting them all back to their own ip address XD

@loganer I think most server software stores the key of remote servers and known accounts indefinitely to prevent impersonation by someone buying the domain. And unfortunately Fedi admins always absolutely refuse to run a "self-destruct" before shutting down their servers which sends deletes for all accounts and the server itself, and if you don't do that and then lose the server ActivityPub keys then that domain is essentially permanently ruined for use on Fedi forever

@nytpu that's rather stupid. there are several situations where one could lose access - especially when it's an open source platform like this.

@loganer@mastodon.social yeah we have a subdomain which hasn't hosted fediverse stuff in years and the 410 Gone page still somehow gets consistent traffic

@julian@activitypub.space i mean technically i think i still have the keys for it lying around. maybe. but i also am not bringing it back. that's why i chose Gone.
