@blog yes plenty of times I want to tag I am exactly here come find me, or I am in London msg me and we can organise somewhere to meet. I would also want to be able to set up triggers and searches for contacts so I can get notified if they are posting near me. I miss tools like Google latitude, but not the privacy nightmare they became.

@apps@toot.fedilab.app I agree, although right now it would be enough for me if the different platforms could communicate with each other. For example, a report from Lemmy doesn't reach Mastodon, and vice versa... This is the most pressing issue today, and if we could do it with Activitypub, it would not only be useful, but also "nice."

@wjmaggos@liberal.city I think that thinking of "anything" being boostable is both weird and expected at the same time. We hold these thoughts in our heads concurrently because it was how the web-at-large (indieweb notwithstanding) worked. What I mean is... A news article isn't a discrete resource shared on a common social web — such a construct does not exist outside of the Fediverse. ... but news articles are littered with "share via..." buttons that sort of approximate the experience.

@wjmaggos There is a problem with the Barnes and Noble analogy. Yes, if you are on mastodon.social and they ban you, you will lose your data. But if you are on hachyderm and mastodon.social blocks you, you don't lose you data (and you can still be seen by the rest of the Fedi). In the analogy, it's like the later case. As long as you trust your server provider your data is fine. It's the same for both network protocols.
