Does anyone on here have any experience with or advice on using Peertube?

Does anyone on here have any experience with or advice on using Peertube? I'm thinking of considering recommending it to a local community group for hosting their videos in a non-commercial space, but they don't really have the means or capacity for self-hosting. Is joining an existing Peertube instance a viable option?

@coldkennels I think it depends on if you're talking about one account for the community or many accounts?
What type of community and what kind of videos?

@Mrfunkedude one account. It’s a left-wing social club that puts on events weekly, so it’d likely be short talks and the like.

@coldkennels I'd recommend Spectra.video.

Okay I don't know anyone in that area.
Maybe this link could be helpful ... https://joinpeertube.org/instances

Maybe this link could be helpful ... https://joinpeertube.org/instances@mischi2000 yeah, I had a look at that… https://peertube.watch seemed like the most obvious choice, but I didn’t know if that’d be like recommending https://mastodon.social (i.e *too* centralising for a decentralised federated platform).

I think it would be okay
Don't forget, they later can migrate to another instance if they wish -

@coldkennels I think @show might have some ideas.

There's a handful of well managed Peertube instances, that you can make a small donation to each year. The videos are easy to access by the entire internet.
I've got an account on MakerTube.net for example.

@ewenbellAlso have a look at delightful libre hosters curated list. A number of providers also offer #Peertube in their offering..

@coldkennels @Mrfunkedude I've been using Spectra to host my occasional videos for a few years now, and would second the recommendation. It's been a stable platform for me, and is run by a chill federation/fediverse veteran.
The only reason I might discount Spectra is if it being US-hosted is disagreeable to the group.

@ambimist @Mrfunkedude US-hosted but non-corporate is still better than US-hosted *and* corporate, but I'd have to check.
It's a shame that "oh, but the servers are in the US" has become such a valid issue these days.

@coldkennels @ambimist It’s why I host my PeerTube instance in Germany. The US is just bonkers right now.
