Maybe this link could be helpful ... https://joinpeertube.org/instances@mischi2000 yeah, I had a look at that… https://peertube.watch seemed like the most obvious choice, but I didn’t know if that’d be like recommending https://mastodon.social (i.e *too* centralising for a decentralised federated platform).

Does anyone on here have any experience with or advice on using Peertube? I'm thinking of considering recommending it to a local community group for hosting their videos in a non-commercial space, but they don't really have the means or capacity for self-hosting. Is joining an existing Peertube instance a viable option?

There's a handful of well managed Peertube instances, that you can make a small donation to each year. The videos are easy to access by the entire internet.
I've got an account on MakerTube.net for example.

@coldkennels @Mrfunkedude I've been using Spectra to host my occasional videos for a few years now, and would second the recommendation. It's been a stable platform for me, and is run by a chill federation/fediverse veteran.
The only reason I might discount Spectra is if it being US-hosted is disagreeable to the group.

@ambimist @Mrfunkedude US-hosted but non-corporate is still better than US-hosted *and* corporate, but I'd have to check.
It's a shame that "oh, but the servers are in the US" has become such a valid issue these days.

@coldkennels @ambimist It’s why I host my PeerTube instance in Germany. The US is just bonkers right now.
