You can't look at a single event or collection of events and conclude that the entire shebang is a failure.

It would be like me pointing out HOA, open reg servers, and alt text arguments and concluding that mastodon is a failure.

@kentnavalesi@mstdn.social discovery of threadiverse communities is almost impossible on Mastodon, so it's not entirely a surprise that the only things that organically come up are the drama filled posts.

There are hundreds if not thousands of niche communities that don't cross over to microblogs.

@KentNavalesi good advice. I'll try to check on some communities as well.

It would also be pretty useful if us, the people outside the so-called threadiverse could tag multiple communities/magazines in the same post, and it would be cross-posted to all of them (it only seems to be picking the first one now afaik. Now if I want to post an interesting article I have to submit a separate post for every single community - this means that I'll be spamming my actual followers over and over with the same article for example).

I don't know where you're getting the idea that I think the fediverse is a failure. Lemmy and piefed users agree that there isn't enough niche content, and I was just pointing out that Mastodonians could help out by occasionally cross-posting to those platforms.

But yes, discovery is an issue. Mastodon users will have to browser-navigate lemmy and piefed to find communities to post to.

There are some incredibly niche communities on there but they almost never cross over to Mastodon, et al.
