Imagine posting a Xitter link in the Fediverse community.

@gelbphoenix@social.gelbphoenix.de I addressed this same topic a year ago, reaching almost the same conclusions. I say "almost" because I disagree with the idea that Threads hasn't harmed the Fediverse. Threads siphoned off user attention by flooding news outlets with press releases. This was particularly evident in Europe, where there was an unrelenting, steady stream of press coverage across online publications claiming that Threads had implemented ActivityPub and federated with the Fediverse—claims that were simply untrue! While it was true outside Europe, those articles were being written in Italian, Polish, German, and Greek! As I state in my article: > Threads adopted a highly unscrupulous approach: not only did it effectively segregate its users, but it also maliciously peddled the idea of federation everywhere. Here in Europe—where they had already decided against actual federation—they distributed false press releases (dutifully picked up by the worst online outlets) claiming they were opening up to the Fediverse. They tried to treat the audience receptive to the Fediverse concept like a herd to be milked, using the very idea of the Fediverse as a buzzword to steal visibility from our own projects. Threads is, for all intents and purposes, a hostile presence that must be contained; we should avoid extremism, certainly, but we must also maintain a firm stance. This diversion of attention away from the Fediverse has caused severe damage to the entire European Fediverse movement! https://www.informapirata.it/2025/11/09/threads-e-la-federazione-con-il-fediverso-libero/

Seems interesting. I wonder at how the curation will be handled.

@mathew @rolle let me clarify... i do not care so much about followers as about reaching and connecting with the right people. building a big follower base is a big task and not everyone can do it. finding and joining a community of like-minded people (think lemmy c/community or even just a small group of friends that follow each other on mastodon or share the same server) is comparatively easier and interacting within this group is much more manageable for most people. creating such small groups and being able to find them is, however, only possible if a big group of people share the same platform for doing that. that is why federation is important. having 100 small isolated mastodon servers with one weird person on each of them does not help. having 100 weird people on 100 federated servers following the same hashtag or being included within the same community/group of any kind does.

@rwg@aoir.social usually there's a carve out for smaller instances. If this affects all social networks regardless of size, this makes my business as a purveyor of hosted forums essentially untenable. Watching closely.

@commonshub I looked through your whole website and I left with very little idea of what you are actually providing. Is it suppose to be a forum?
