I honestly never got why they even make the effort of "Windows" in general.

@Hairyfishnuts why no? More options

Do you think Microsoft will ever release Office for Linux? If I'm not mistaken, Microsoft has released a Linux distribution, so it's reasonable to believe that they might do so. #microsoft #office #microsoftoffice #azure @linux
I think so. They'll see it as a cash grab opportunity, seeing as to how many people are leaving Microsoft for Linux, but they'll then reverse course as soon as they realize Linux users don't care for their proprietary software (that costs way too much imo) and have other, very viable, options.
Libre Office can handle what most users will throw at it.

And now im wondering if you can run it in a wine bottle...

I honestly never got why they even make the effort of "Windows" in general. I would have just made some major version a Linux distribution (probably 8.1?).
That means I don't think they will but I don't know why.

I've never thought about it as anything I'd ever want or need.

They are too busy firing all of their developers.

No for several reasons
First of all, office is written in a codebase as old as windows XP itself and it's impossible to port to anything. Wine is a thing, but that would always be a second class port and not on par with native office
Second, any effort seems to go toward the online office version, and I am pretty sure online only office 365 will be a reality one day, so Microsoft would not waste resources in a port to linux natively.
And last, user base would not justify the business case. Interest for existing Linux users would be pretty small (libre/open offices do exist, natively for Linux, and are of excellent quality today) and an official office for Linux would not cause business users to migrate over anyway.

@Shimitar I guess you're right even though Office is more powerful than Libre office unfortunately. PowerPoint is a really powerful or maybe Libre Office is too complex

Given office 365 is cloud based, then you just need a web browser, the OS is not really imoortant, as for other integration not sure, they would have to perhaps release a desktop Linux with that integration built in.
For offices that use a limited set of applications it would probably work.
