some feedback about Lemmy/PieFed from Reddit users

The post bots are a new thing of the last few months. Look at the mod on almost all those communities. Came in and set up shop a while back. To take advantage of the low activity.
I don't have anything against post bots explicitly or modding multiple communities. I have two. However there should be limits
So long as they are labeled as such, I have no issues with it. The intent seems more than clearly to aid rather than deceive.

It's not even about deception. Although deception starts off as aid generally before they are deceived. Hence deception. Realistically an individual cannot properly moderate that many communities. Not even people I know who are on disability and spend all day online can do that and still remain mentally healthy. It's just not a good thing.
Un moderated or poorly moderated communities can also be problematic in their own right. Not to mention creating all these unused communities. Posting all these bot posts to those communities. It grows the local database, for no real purpose. Just the hope that maybe they could catch someone to come in and contribute to the community? Does the good outweigh the bad? And then it leads to assessments somewhat like yours. Of large bot presence. Which if you were looking to grow communities. That sort of thing is generally seen as a detriment. Maybe they think or are looking to try to help. But again I just question it. The efficacy of it. I would rather see fewer but more active maintains communities than a bunch of ghostcoms. Magically getting posts but no engagement. But that's just me LOL. And if I put up my own instance I will probably keep it quite tight.

I suppose those instance admins are the ones who should have the most say about what they do or do not allow on their instance. But then yeah, we each also have our own choices to make in response, like whether to block or not. I don't, but then again I'm effectively doing it by another means where I browse by Subscribed and simply never subscribe to those coms:-).

Stockholm syndrome to the max
Or they've already invested effort into figuring out ways around it - like old reddit+RES. Whereas for Lemmy there is less content overall and it's a change that they haven't yet seen the value in making the switch.
And also Stockholm syndrome to the max:-)

I'm commenting from https://old.piefed.zip , the experience is very similar to old.reddit

PieFed interoperates pretty much seamlessly with Lemmy - some post types Lemmy does not support (like user polls) so occasionally you'll see something in PieFed but not Lemmy, though never the other way around.
Settings Export & Import should work perfectly as well, definitely from Lemmy to PieFed though I never tried that in reverse.
You should really enjoy it!! Anyway, you always have your Lemmy to fall back onto... like during maintenance or whatever.
It hasn’t started well for now.
First instance I tried said they were taking more people when the main Piefed page said they were.
And now, I’ve been waiting for 2 days for an answer from another instance..
If the answer is negative again or if I get none, I’ll go for the biggest instance available, but I’ll give up after this..
This would be way too much for someone who would just give a try to the Fediverse..

Yeah the entire onboarding experience is a mess for the whole Threadiverse - both Lemmy and PieFed.
Most people that talk poorly about us on Reddit or Bluesky or X claim to have had accounts here for several years, so it does not seem to get better even after making an account.
We here still perpetually need to have the early adopter mindset, which seems like it will never go away.
