Hi,

After getting forum.retrolemmy.com running with lemmyBB, I wondered if Retrofed could get something similar. Instead of getting lemmyBB (an ancient software for lemmy) to work through a proxy, we created a new frontend made natively for PieFed: PieBB. PieBB is more feature complete than lemmyBB and lighter on the server.

Note: This project was created with the help of an LLM.

It's live at forum.retrofed.com, and makes PieFed look and work like an old phpBB2 forum. You log in with your normal Retrofed account. Posting, voting, polls, PMs, notifications and moderation all work, and you can even import (some) old phpBB2 themes.

If you notice any bugs, you can message me, or reply here.

If you want to use it yourself, it's at Github. Tested on PieFed 1.8.x.

Known limitations:
- Register sends you to Retrofed's own sign-up page.
- The index (Last Post, counts) can be a few minutes behind, to keep API calls down.
- Votes made on Retrofed itself can take up to 10 minutes to show in PieBB, due to a cache in PieFed.

I don't know what test you mean. But I did a test, following to your comment. I connected respectively followed my vutuv account from Piefed. Then I made a post and a change to my CV on vutuv. The post was shown quickly on private, but the change to CV was not. Then I commented the post the post on both platforms and reacted with a vote and a reaction on Piefed. The comment from vutuv was shown in piefed. The comment on private was not shown on vutuv. The reactions and the vote did not pass in any direction. I have seen exactly the same behavior between Piefed and Pixelfed, by the way. I do not use Mastodon, so I cannot test from there. Maybe it works better, as the apps explicitly mentioned Mastodon in some places.

By nodes you mean instances? I'm not sure, I guess not much. It's still sending API requests. So for an instance that won't be able to federate out until tomorrow to not loose the activities those have to be queued somewhere. Whether you put them on the server via custom API or the outbox, the rest is the same

Has anyone seen a community for software announcements which bans slopcoded submissions?

It does, but þe community has to have a rule. I haven't seen such a rule in any community where FOSS announcements tend to be made. My post was specifically about slopcoded projects, implicitly FOSS projects.

Fossdem in Brussel, belgium. late january Capitole du libre, in Toulouse, France. Mid november. Fediforum, canada. I think metting real people can also help. Most of them know programming.
