@evan No but only because they shouldn’t *have* to in order to prevent misuse of their posts.
-
isn't it possible using those posts too?
imo people should think of fedi as a blog. very public. I think there's a lot of potential in matrix for more private "social networking" vs the "social media" we're doing here.
-
@evan Yes but only because there's no other way currently. It would be better if there was a way for instances to block these or for people to be able to block scraping without having going followers only.
-
@evan Maybe I’m missing something, but what are private accounts on the fediverse?
At the end of the day, if you are posting to a platform that is publicly accessible (whether it’s your home server or you are federating to one that is) there is no real way to prevent your posts from being scraped. You can make it slightly more difficult, but you can’t stop it outright.

@wjmaggos isn't what possible?
-
@wiredfire it would be better if bad people didn't do bad things, agreed.
-
sorry. getting access to our data. it's still public AFAIK if you post followers only or use private accounts.
-
@wjmaggos that's a very testable hypothesis! You should try it.
-
evan@cosocial.ca you can try, you'll never get them to do it.
