Users now have the illusion of reach and freedom, but that can be denied at a moment's notice. Alternatively, it can be suppressed gradually, and they may not even know it. And they kept the sale a secret, leaving their users with the impression that Bluesky was still a rag tag bunch of starry eyed developers trying to build a better mousetrap.

The really galling thing is at that time they weren't a whole lot bigger than Mastodon, so they took all the energy that could have gone into building real defensible public social media and cooped it.

It is a very underhanded move and should be recognized as such.

The founding team were basically all people with Crypto-laden CVs. The initial costs were funded by Crypto bro extraordinaire Jack.

It's not in the least bit surprising they got a crapton more money from Cryptoland, and then started extending welcomes to everyone in Crypto grifter HQ; the one in a historic white mansion in D.C. that's getting obscene renovations.

It was always going to happen this way.
