@mastodonmigration Yes. We’re dealing with true professionals at grift. It’s what they do. Bain especially and these other VCs in crypto. In contrast, you have the people who PT Barnum was talking about and then the internet “personalities” and “influencers” who care about nothing other than maintaining or building their brand by monetizing their followers. I blocked one of those people a couple of months ago because their behavior was horrible, starkly contradictoring their professed values.

And they kept the sale a secret, leaving their users with the impression that Bluesky was still a rag tag bunch of starry eyed developers trying to build a better mousetrap.

The really galling thing is at that time they weren't a whole lot bigger than Mastodon, so they took all the energy that could have gone into building real defensible public social media and cooped it.

It is a very underhanded move and should be recognized as such.

And it's a pedestal that Apple never really truly deserved... (Oh, maybe very early on when going up against IBM and IBM's ways, but still, most of the pedestal consists of just some very very effective marketing...)

The founding team were basically all people with Crypto-laden CVs. The initial costs were funded by Crypto bro extraordinaire Jack.

It's not in the least bit surprising they got a crapton more money from Cryptoland, and then started extending welcomes to everyone in Crypto grifter HQ; the one in a historic white mansion in D.C. that's getting obscene renovations.

It was always going to happen this way.
