it's from https://bandwagon.fm/about so i think we have to thank @benpate for that

Aw shucks... Thank you!
I also own "whatisthefediverse.com" and "whatisthefediverse.org"
We should do something with it
benpate@mastodon.social one giant infographic to rule them all
You’re right. There’s already several “starting pages” (though none ever felt exactly right to me)
Still, in an effort to avoid https://xkcd.com/927/ I haven’t added to the list just yet.
My ideal would be a pretty page with a simple value proposition, then one or two “get off my lawn” drop downs (who are you and what do you want?) that forwards you to the sign up page of a single recommended site (like Google’s “I’m feeling lucky”)
Actually stefan@stefanbohacek.online has the right idea.
What if your landing page asked a simple question... "How do you want to learn?"
Audio? Send them a podcast.
Video? Link them to _elena@mastodon.social's video
Tiktok style? Let's make some short punchy intro vids.
Image? Send them to an infographic. Maybe this is where your site lies benpate@mastodon.social
Memes? Let's show them the best memes we can make.
This is another fantastic idea. Yes, "landing page" is the right idea here, and giving people options for how they want to learn would be the right approach.
It needs to pitch prospective users in clear, simple language just like the landing pages for other sites would. Then let them explore via audio, video, images, memes, etc.
Then the "call to action" at the bottom needs to get them to the right server with no drama.
@julian Yes, there are so many ways you can introduce someone to the fediverse, and different people will be interested in different aspects of it.
I still like https://jointhefediverse.net, but it can be a bit overwhelming for someone who just wants to post memes.
And I also wrote https://stefanbohacek.com/blog/a-netizens-guide-to-mastodon-fediverse/, which is a more human way to introduce the fediverse as a community of people.
I think a similar "introduction to the fediverse through memes" is actually a great idea!
You know, wafrn is meme central... I'm certain gabboman@app.wafrn.net would be on board.
