@quillmatiq @boris Thank you. That's the clear answer I needed. Progress is being made to actual independent federation. And I think you mentioned previously that they can all post to each other?

@mike Yes, but a caveat: microblogging apps like Bluesky and Blacksky are interoperating directly over the same lexicon.
Leaflet and blogging platforms are interoperating over one that makes sense for blogging (the one I mentioned earlier, standard.site), but post-to and post-back to microblogging sites (think the Note type vs Article type in ActivityPub - they work together, but an Article can be a link here and Notes can flow back to the blog).
So on and so forth for other lexicons.

@mike @quillmatiq it’s not progress. It’s done. It works. More and different things will launch.
It’s not federation. Because it’s not instances. But I’ll leave it at that.

If we want to talk about decentralization, try to switch your account here to another instance and see what happens?
Forget that, try to change your user name and see what happens.
These are basic things that work very well on ATmosphere, things that I believe are core to decentralization which you cannot doEvery protocol has it's faults, let's not put down the ones we don't understand
-
@samir @mastodonmigration @quillmatiq @mmasnick @ricci Switching instances is clunky but at least there's several hundred instances I can move to and it is possible with a little planning. For that matter I can spin up a single user instance in about ten minutes from masto-host and have all the usernames I want.

Clunky does matter: the fact that it's much smoother on atproto, due to design features of the protocol, is great
-
@ricci @samir @mastodonmigration @quillmatiq @mmasnick It definitely matters! But I think it matters more to have a place to move too.

Yep, agreed on that front too! If you want to see, from a PDS (where user data is stored) perspective, how many places there are to switch to over on the atmosphere, you can have a look at https://arewedecentralizedyet.online/ and look at the map or raw data. (this does not tell you how many are accepting signups, though)
-
@ricci @samir @mastodonmigration @quillmatiq @mmasnick Not sure a trusted verifier is apples to apples comparison, but I will plead ignorance.
-
@mike @samir @mastodonmigration @quillmatiq @mmasnick There is not a direct equivalent to trusted verifiers in the fediverse, due to how different verification works here, have a look at the PDS numbers, those are more comparable

Clunky is putting it lightly because you CANNOT switch instance, you delete your account and start a new one.
You can transfer your social graph but lose everything else (posts, private messages, likes bookmarks, everything is lost).
I would not call this switching nor changing user name, that's a social graph copy to a new account
