Driving in Italy is like speaking English in a non-native speaking country. It's detrimental to your abilities (thread)

For example, I'm sure many Italians weren't even told that there's a way you can switch blinkers only on one side of the car

There's a challenge to hand-leg coordination as well: in situations where most drivers would use the breaks to slow down, Italians would rather rush for the honk

Parking is also particular. I'm pretty sure in no other country drivers would be convinced that if there's a paid parking blue zone, parking in the grass nearby would be free

Then, they have amazing wide boulevards in cities. Three lanes: one for parked cars, one for those stopping just for a moment to have a chat with someone, and the final one for the buses from the public transport to service bus stops

In Italy they make nice and wide roundabouts with traffic lights, as well as both circular part and crossroad. This way people can park on the circular part, and when the traffic light turns red, others can block each other on the crossroad

Not sure who exactly does it, but in Milan there's a sort of race against GMaps. On Monday morning, when everyone is busy getting to work, it appears there's a group of drivers, who lurk around for uncongested roads and rush to make an accident whenever a faster path appears

A typical three-lane motorway has some trucks and small cars in the right. In the middle, there's lots of drivers that are content with driving with an average speed...

To the left, usually there's even more drivers that would like to drive faster, but there one untouched soul that doesn't mind driving with the speed of the mates to the right...

Then there are also those who do get to drive fast as they'd like surpassing everyone from the rightmost lane. Expectedly, this last category is composed mostly of sports cars. The actual fun is that plenty of van drivers are also trying to repeat that trick with limited success
