Contestants are given the choice to target either the fediverse, or atmosphere. Targeting both is also an option.

Competition is expected to be fierce. It will be quite interesting to see who the EC will pick as the winner, and what protocol their proposal is based on.

It is telling that there is only one pilot for either one or the other protocol, and not two pilots, each for their own protocol. Though I hope that an AP-based pitch will be granted, my gut feeling tells me they probably already made up their mind - driven by political and market(ing) forces - to select . Hope I'm proven wrong. Fediverse is the more "for the people, by the people" choice, and best fit to European culture and values imho, among others.

Results will be in near the end of the year.
