@stefan Yeah, that tracks.
Someone lobbied some EU suits with 'how about we make our own, with blackjack, hookers, and blockchain, AND CHAT SURVEILLANCE ALREADY BUILT IN!' and all they had to do is slip a couple hundred million into some large telco's pockets to create that failure...
Classic modus operandi in EU for stuff like that.

@stefan I wish they wouldn’t say “amid rising tensions” when they just mean Trump is a piece of shit.
-
@stefan all the "W" marketing is so low rent and cringe it's impossible to take seriously
-
@deadinside @stefan yeah, this sounds like an end-run around the Chat Control defeats last year
-
@stefan people will do literally anything to avoid building on top of web standards.
-
@stefan
My only question: is W to X as HAL was to IBM? -
Let them know, its ignorance, get help from eu official accounts already on.
-
@stefan seems like addressing the underlying problem of social platforms not offering any interoperability or data portability would be more useful.
-
@stefan Not necessarily. In the developing sitution, it might be about branding, but odds are good that it will interact with Fediverse.
-
@riley That would definitely be great!
-
@Szescstopni @stefan Nah, Alphabet failed with their attempt (Google Plus)
-
@stefan I think they should have gone with Y. As in "WHY aren't they federating???"
-
@stefan technically, they could launch a Fediverse-compatible server and do ID verification there, but federate to the whole Fediverse

@dansup It seems the concept is fully verified identities.... No Pseudonymity That probably isn't compatible with the fediverse and is a significantly different value proposition. I doubt it will succeed among the general public but it might become popular with journalists, corporate and govt accounts. More broadcast than true N:N.
Mastodon (mastodon.social)

@stefan The fediverse is harder to control. The EU are control freaks.
-
@bontchev @stefan It's not an EU proposal. Obviously you don't have any clue how the EU works. The EU is an association of democracies that enacts legislation democratically.
Yes, EU citizens *choose* control in many areas where the US prefers none. From a European perspective a country that prefers to tolerate school shootings and which elects a moron who demands the territory of allies is one with many out of control freaks.

@stefan
I think that's PR.
Looks like a private company with Swedish connections and run by a Swiss person who worked in eBay.At least she's not efrom Amazon, Meta, Alphabet or MS.
Citiverse è un progetto che si basa su NodeBB ed è federato! | Categorie federate | Chat | 📱 Installa web app o APK | 🧡 Donazioni | Privacy Policy
