Which I guess is not a huge ask, if fallback JPEGs are dynamically generated instead of stored 'just in case.' And you don't DDOS yourself by letting an old-ass browser trick you into doing MP4 -> GIF conversions all day long.

People kvetch about WebP not being supported by anything, but formats are a chicken-and-egg problem. More services should be able to say "here is a file, good luck."
