@MiriShuli once again, in the standards community we leave our companies at the door. That's how it works.
There a countless standards you'd be using right now that were lead or contributed to by each of those companies

@MiriShuli While I completely understand having reservations, it's important to remember that there are still amazing, dedicated people working at some of these companies, who put their jobs and livelihoods on the line for the things they believe in.
Employees staged sit-ins at Google's offices this week demanding the company stop selling its technology to the Israeli government. Google then fired more than two dozen of these workers.

Meta's decision to specifically allow users to call LGBTQ+ people "mentally ill" has sparked widespread backlash at the company.

@stefan @MiriShuli yeah, and it's because of stuff like that that we leave our companies at the door. Everyone speaks as an individual unless they say "I'm speaking on behalf of my organisation, this is what we're doing"; without that, standards simply wouldn't happen.
Like, pick a few random W3C or IETF documents and have a look at the names involved, you might find it surprising.
@thisismissem Great work ! that's a long post tho you could have just told them to fuck off
@fwtl could have, but I usually choose education for all if I can. However, for the ones that are definitely in bad faith, I did definitely just block & report. One account was apparently already suspended, whether that was related I do not know.
It's also just how… meetings work.
Like the secretary is one of the hardest roles to fill. Under Roberts (and a lot of other systems) you review and vote to ratify the minutes, but even where you don't do that: multiple eyes are on minutes, taking them accurately and having a single manager is a godsend, and if you don't have accurate minutes it tends to _get noticed_.
@thisismissem Emilia, would you be surprised if I said I don’t believe these people leave their company at the door?
I know you believe it. I know you’ve worked with the people for years. I understand there can be good people in an awful company. I simply do not believe any company leaves their financial interests at the door. Especially not those intent on a totalitarian/surveillance state.
I’m glad you are willing to be in the room with them.
@stefan @thisismissem And what they believe in is a surveillance nightmare state, intent on controlling my life and the lives of my children.
I always recommend to police report and sue people that violate libel or character assassination laws.
People on social media are completely lost and will draw you as the devil in person as long as they can have a good feeling about themselves and see their internet points rise.
Do not allow them to suck you empty or their cynicism to affect you.
@m mmm, maybe, but can't really do a police report about anonymous or lacking detail social media post. The only named person in there didn't actually do libel, just a very opinionated take without reading the article. (They also apparently clearly spend time on Bluesky in order to know of most of what they wrote because it was sub obscure stuff — and also somewhat wrong)
The posts insinuated being a nazi without directly calling me one, so I don't think that meets the bar for libel.
Past conspiracy theories? Eh, definitely met the bar for libel but the person was based in another country, not german, so probably nothing possible here.
Plus I really don't care about such shitty opinions THAT much to walk 1km to my nearest police station and attempt to try to report. Police have never been helpful in the past in any matter I've dealt with them on, so not sure why that'd start now.
I just block, move on, and make sure I put out accurate information.
